Singapore

JG: We had to fly through Singapore out of Cambodia, so we stopped into the city for a couple of days. And it also happened to be Chinese New Year, so although the city was quiet during the day, there were various festivities at night throughout the city. Singapore itself is great to visit for a short stay - it's spotless, diverse, very modern, and there is clearly a lot of commerce centered here. Though it's much more affluent than most of SE Asia, you'll still find pockets of local merchants and communal restaurants, particularly in Chinatown and Little India neighborhoods. Having a full array of restaurants, stores, and malls (and no tuk-tuks!) actually felt a bit strange after the last couple of months in this part of the world. I kind of miss the chaos of Vietnam and Cambodia!

SS: What a cool city! Spotless clean, very modern, organized and aesthetically appealing but two days was more than enough to get a feel of the city and take in some sites. We stayed in an area called 'Little India' and at first I have to admit I was a little nervous but it was situated in an easy touring area and, well, nothing like real India. We explored different areas including Chinatown, which was busy due to the Chinese New Year, and it was a trendy area close to the central business district that was great for a waterfront pint and another swanky neighbourhood full of bars, restaurants and shops all lit up under a massive mesh umbrella. Fantastic! Up to the top of the iconic Marina Bay Sands resort (the three towers with a 'boat' on top) for amazing views over the city and water.

Singapore was a nice break from 3rd world living but I as well enjoy the chaos that comes with trekking through the trenches.
