Much of our time was spent cruising the city and shopping malls, which were actually quite the spectacle. We also stayed in a real hotel, a rare treat (I think they overlooked hostels in the city plan). Visited the Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world), as well as the Burj Al Arab (supposedly the only 7-star hotel in existence) for a cocktail. Thanks for the $30 Old Fashioned, Burj....
The highlight was seeing Dave and Stephanie and hanging out with their friends - all good people. And Killers on the beach at the Atlantis? Couldn't have capped the long weekend any better.
SS: Dubai is one of those cities that you hear so much about and feel like you know what to expect but it seemed different than I would have imagined in a way I can't quite explain. One thing for sure is that it is an engineering marvel and very, very beautiful.
Ok - the highlight.... They have a TIM HORTONS!!! For you Americans, that is the Holy Grail of Canadian coffee heaven and my personal favorite. It almost brought tears to my eyes.
We were lucky enough to meet up with our scuba diving friends (Dave and Stephanie) that we met in Gozo, Malta and joined them for an amazing night of listening to The Killers and Monsters of Men on the Atlantis beach located at the tip of The Palm. Hitting most of the iconic buildings, malls and sights this city was made by and for the wealthy. Although I would certainly consider making the move.
